Theodore F. Green Airport in Providence, Rhode Island is one of the smaller metropolitan airports was opened in 1931 as the Rhode Island State Airport, and was renamed for longtime governor and U.S. senator T.F. The airport is located in Warwick, Rhode Island, 6 miles (10 km) south of Providence; it is 60 to 90 minutes by car to Boston and Worcester in Massachusetts as well as New Haven and New London, Connecticut. The airport has direct access to Interstate 95 by a mile-long expressway, and the trip to Providence takes about 10 minutes. Shuttles link the airport with downtown Providence, and also with the summer resort and naval base at Newport (45 minutes) and Quonset Point, where the ferry departs for the resort island of Martha’s Vineyard (15 minutes). Peter Pan Bus Lines pick up passengers in front of the airport for Boston, Cape Cod and other cities in Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Connecticut. There is also an intermodal rail station adjacent to the terminal, with 10 Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA or “the T”) trains to the Providence rail station and Back Bay and South Stations in Boston. Travel time to Providence is 20 minutes, and to Boston 85 minutes; the fares are $2.75 to Providence and $6.25 to Boston. The trains currently operate only on weekdays.

Providence is the most populated city in Rhode Island.
